Opening of FIDE Chess Academy in Belarus
The Belarus FIDE Chess Academy running by WIM and IA Anastasia Sorokina has opened its doors in the center of Minsk on the 5th of October 2017. The National Olympic Committee has breathed a new life into the development of the Chess School by moving its location into the spacious and cozy rooms of the sport complex "Olympiyskiy". The most modern chess equipment allows conducting training in accordance with all international requirements and holding national chess tournament for children and young people.
At the opening ceremony also present was Mr. Maxim Ryzhenkov, Aide to the Belarus President on Physical Training, Sport and Tourism. In honor of the opening, a chess tournament for 6-8 years-old children was organised by the school. More than 50 young players applied to compete. The main prize of which - the annual free training at the School of Chess. By decision of the board of management and coaching, from this academic year, the school opens new department - FIDE Chess Academy, where the children, who showed good results in the competitions of the city and the country, will be transferred repeatedly. Despite the fact that this is a private school, these children will be trained at the Chess Academy for free.
Mr. Maxim Ryzhenkov noted that this is the best chess school in Belarus in terms of teaching staff and its organisation. And according to the good old chess tradition he made the first symbolic move on the first board, thus giving the official start of the tournament.
